Fiat - Timeless Italian Style
Italian car manufacturers are known for their styling – even more so than their amazing performance and driving experience. Fiat is no exception to this rule and offers beautifully-designed, affordable, fun cars. The Fiat brand has been in existence for over 120 years, a fact that is very important to most Fiat owners. Drivers love this heritage in the automobile industry and are fiercely defensive of the brand.
Although the Fiat brand has this rich tradition dating back to its first model, the 3.5 HP from 1899, Fiat has undergone many changes throughout the years. The most devise topic among owners is arguably is whether or not the Fiat brand lost its “soul” when it merged with Chrysler in 2008, forming the current Fiat-Chrysler corporation.
Regardless of whether or not you believe this merger was a good or a bad move for the brand, it’s impossible to say Fiat lost its core DNA in the process. Even to this day, Fiat vehicles are incredibly fun, sporty and quick vehicles. Their slightly dramatic and playful Italian styling sets them apart from other vehicles on the road, and simply put a smile on your face every time you start the engine.

Fiat Maintenance and Repair
Fiat vehicles are known for their high revving, peppy engines. Although they are certainly not underpowered, they are also not the fastest vehicle in its class either. Because Fiat owners are drivers who enjoy quick acceleration and the “whoosh” of the turbocharger along the way, it’s important to ensure maintenance schedules are followed.
Maintenance is particularly important for the turbo models, such as the new 124 Spider. Fiat themselves recognize many of its owners are enthusiasts and recommend initial oil changes be completed anywhere between 3,000 and 7,000 miles, depending on how vigorously the vehicle is driven. Having clean oil is not only essential for the engine but also to keep your turbos in excellent condition.
Routine service then occurs at regular intervals – 10,000, 20,000, and 40,000, etc. Modern Fiats have the advantage of being much more reliable and easy to maintain when compared to classic models. Fiat’s merger with the Chrysler group means the brand now has access to the technology and design that has made other brands, such as Mazda, so popular in North America.
Fiat Heritage
Abarth
For owners who really want to experience the best performance Fiat has to offer, there is no other choice than an Abarth model. The Abarth program takes base model 500s and 124 Spiders and tunes them into even more purpose-driven machines. Lowered and hardened suspension, more horsepower, larger brakes, and tailored interiors are all standard on Abarth models. An Abarth can be easily identified by the coveted scorpion badging it wears on the hood and trunk lid, replacing the standard Fiat badging.
